Lessons Learned from Midwest Tornadoes

May 20, 2014 marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating Moore, OK EF-5 tornado that killed 24 people, including seven children who were trapped in Plaza Towers Elementary School. As the community in Moore continues to rebuild its town, the devastating photos of the event last spring serve a chilling reminder: Mother Nature can hit anytime and anywhere, and communities must be prepared for the worst-case scenario.

Another tragic anniversary that recently occurred is that of the multiple-vortex EF5 tornado that struck Joplin, MO on May 22nd, 2011. After causing 158 deaths and nearly $2.8 billion in property damage, this tornado will be remembered as one of the most severe in recent history.
