Medical Training May Have Saved Officer’s Life

Fort Worth Police Department's Medical Training Program

Yesterday, a Fort Worth police officer was chasing down a robbery suspect when the suspect opened fire on the officer, wounding him in the leg. Thanks to the medical training program spearheaded by Sergeant Scott Sikes, this officer was prepared not only with proper medical supplies but with the skills necessary to immediately treat his injury. He may very well have saved his own life as severe bleeding (hemorrhage) is one of the top three causes of preventable death in the field. This incident is a testimony to the agency’s commitment to officer survival.

Chinook worked with Sgt. Sikes to create a custom medical kit that fit not only their budget but also their training program. The Chinook family is proud to have been able to support this initiative and contribute ever so slightly to the survival of one of their dedicated officers. We all wish the officer a speedy recovery.
